Question: I have terrible insomnia and in spite of taking, variously, or in combinations, ambien, lorazepam, aleve pm, excedrin pm, occasionally flexeril, nightcaps just before I really want to fall asleep, I can't fall asleep until 1:30 or 2 in the morning. I love to sleep until 11 am, which is not helpful. But it is only in the late morning, when I have stopped having to get up to pee as frequently as I do in the 11 - midnight time frame, that I truly feel "at one with the bed" i.e., I feel glued down and I love that feeling. Getting up early to try to reset my clock just leaves me tired and cranky and makes it no easier to fall asleep earlier Help!

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Each one of us have a biological clock inside us and yours is set for a sleep time from 1.30 am to 11 am. You are having over 9 hours of sleep. This is sufficient as the recommended number of hours of sleep is 8 hours.
You are taking a large number of sedative medication in an attempt to change the biological clock. Try to use your wake hours usefully or having fun and sleep when your body wants sleep as per the biological clock.
Don't stop all your medicines abruptly but start tapering them and stop without any withdrawal effect.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.

My doctor thinks I have adrenal fatigue or insufficiency after coming off a week of Prednisone (which was for sinusitis that hadn t resolved after 4 courses of Augmentin.) Symptoms included aching glands around head and shoulders, lightheadedness, dizziness, insomnia, terrible fatigue, strange aches here and there. I also have had cognitive issues - losing track of what I am talking about mid sentence. CT scan yesterday showed that the paranasal sinses are clear now and all blood tests, FBC, iron, thyroid etc were normal. My doctor has prescribed a lower dose of Prednisone for 3 weeks to kick start the Adrenal glands. Prior to my problem with sinusitis, I have had at least a year of stress due to grief, supporting others through grief, daughter getting married, changes at work and a greatly increased workload where I don t have time for leisure. I am 49 and mother to 3. I work full time.I have started the low dose prednisone but am worried that it will cause more problems. Should I stay on it?

I have been feeling like I have a fast or somewhat irregular heart rate for the past couple of days but today is worse. My husband just took it and it was 92. Also recent insomnia. Am concerned as I am not feeling right. Am currently on Cymbalta and an anti seisure med for headache.
Please advise.
