Suggest Treatment For Inguinal Hernia

Posted on Sat, 25 Oct 2014
Question: My husband has swelling on the lower right side of his groin area next to his penis, his activities today included him bending and standing more than usual at work as they were counting inventory, what may have caused the swelling and should I take him to the ER? He says his level of pain is about a 2 on a scale of 1-10 if he is moving, it does not hurt to go to the bathroom he said also

I believe this may be an inguinal hernia as described on the Mayo Clinic website. they have a picture and explanation and it describes spot on what I am seeing

I have concluded my research on Mayo clinic's website and have the answers I needed. I am 100% sure it is an inguinal hernia and we'll be making an appointment for him with a doctor. While I am waiting for his appointment, I will only get him emergency medical care if he develops nausea, vomiting or fever or if his hernia bulge turns red, purple or dark. Thanks but I do have my own answer.

Brief Answer:
You seems to have got it right...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, you seem to have got it right. Inguinal hernia is located at the same region. I hope the lump did not develop overnight.
Well, there are 2 signs that you may want to test for to confirm hernia:
1. Try gently pushing it in. If it hurts while pushing in, stop it. Some hernia gets reduced, so if you are able to push it in then it's 100% a hernia.
2. Some hernia's produced an impulse on cough or straining. You can feel this impulse on your fingers/palm.
