Question: good morning doctor. my daughter ( almost 20 ) was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last week. She's an active student in the university ( volleyball player, student leader and into academics ). Does she need to slow down a bit or is it still ok for her to do the same. thanks

Brief Answer:
let her carry on.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
There is no issues pertaining to activities she is having until and unless she has any symptoms.
In Hyperthyroidism, many people have Palpitations (that is the feeling of heart beating).
In people having palpitations we need to restrict physical activities till the heart rate is under control, otherwise she need not stop any activity she is doing.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

thanks Dr. for the response. As a dad, i'm so concerned about the issue that's why im doing a lot of internet searching so my family will be educated with regards to the disease. In terms of foods, I'm getting confuse on some write ups so I need clarification.
# 1. Is she allowed to take SOYA MILK and EGGS?
# 2. If she's not allowed to eat white bread, then brown bread like wholewheat is fine?
# 3. is tofu ok to eat?

thanks,
doctor

Brief Answer:
No special dietary restrictions.

Detailed Answer:
Hello. There are no special dietary restrictions in people being treated for hyperthyroidism.
We just advice to Avoid generic ground meat which may contain animal thyroid.
Rest she can eat everything.
The more you read the more you will get confused.
Avoid reading opinions from random sites. Prefer to read on medical websites like Mayo clinic , Medscape.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
