Question: I was taking bystolic 5mg for 4 years and it kept my blood pressure at 120/80 or a little better then all of a sudden it went to 160/90 the doctor prescribed benicar which worked but caused extreme fatigue so tried hct, norvasc, spironolactone, and losartan with the fatique problem and my doctor is out of ideas. Working on diet and exericise has gotten me to 145/80 so far still working on it. Any ideas? This is very frustrating.
PS dropped the bystolic couple months ago blood pressue remained the same

Brief Answer:
A systematic approach of life style and medicines

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
I understand your frustration.
Blood pressure control goes beyond the use of medicines, most of which you find difficult to tolerate. Let us start at the basics and try correcting any abnormalities.
Weight: If you are overweight or obese try to reduce the weight to ideal weight.
Follow the DASH ( Dietary advice to Stop Hypertension) diet. You can find it on many web sites.
Exercise minimum 30mts a day for at least 5 days a week.
Do not smoke. If alcohol is used, only in moderation.
Practice relaxation
Go back to Bystolic as it was helping you initially. 5 mg is a small dose. If your BP is not controlled in 2 weeks, you can increase the dose to 10mg per day.
As per the latest studies, it is not necessary to get the BP down to 120/80 to be benefited.
Take Care
