Question: I currently take Coreg 25, 2 a day, Diovan HCT 160/12.5 1 a day, Hydroxyurea 500 M-F, 81 mg aspirin a day. I've had two of the most stressful weeks of my life with my wife being in the hospital with kidney issues. She is currently doing dialysis and will be going to a rehab facility at the beginning of the week due to the fact that she needs a knee replacement she can't get one because of kidney function numbers and being in bed for two weeks the other leg is weak. I am really struggling with everything. I take my bp at home and its 170/85. I will probably see my heart doctor next week.

Brief Answer:
probably due to stress

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

this rise in blood pressure was probably due to stress. This is common. If you don't have any particular issues like aneurysm of any kind or location or heart failure then you don't have to worry about this elevation that much. When the psychological stress if reduced or over, your blood pressure will get back to normal. I usually avoid to prescribe more potent drugs to patients with temporary psychological stress because when the stress if over they experience serious side effects like hypotension.

If your blood pressure rises to more ominous levels (higher than 200/110) or if you develop any symptom then you should visit a doctor as soon as possible. In such a case, the blood pressure would have to be corrected.
