Should I continue Diovan? One doctor suggested that Diovan is not for hypertention but to stabilize heart. Pls enlighten me.

Hi,

Diovan is a medication that regulates blood pressure and also has a beneficial effects on heart. It is possible that your doctor prescribed Diovan not only for regulating blood pressure but also for those effects. Blood pressure 110/70 is good, but if you have tendency for a lower blood...

I am currently on 320 Diovan daily but my B/P is continuously higher now than it used to be. My doctor told me once years ago that if the B/P went high it would be okay to take an additional Diovan that day.

What is considered a high enough number to take an additional dosage of Diovan? I've run this week from a high one day of 180/117 down to 157/90 today.

I am a female 64 years of age with a cardiac arrest in 2004.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The blood pressure readings in your case are high despite taking regular medicine. A dose of 320 mg daily of diovan is already on a higher side.
If your blood pressure is still not controlled, taking another anti hypertensive like calcium channel blocker or...

My Alk Phos dropped from 97.00 on 1/30/2012 to 65.00 on 7/9/2012 and then was 69.00on8/15/2012. I plan to have a consultation visit with my doctor in the next week. However, I would like to know if this seems to be associated with diovan. Thanks for your help,

doctor1 MD

Dear Friend,

Diovan is Valsartan which is a drug commonly used for treatment of hypertension.

No, Diovan is not associated with rise in ALT, ALP, Platelet count.

However, i don't find a reason for you to be worried about platelet counts, there levels fluctuate, if with in normal range, not a...

I have been prescribed losartan potassium 100 mg to replace my diovan 160 mg because diovan is too expensive. After two weeks I have been having pain in my foot aside from more coughing and arm and back pain. I also take 80 mg of furomecide and 80 mg of potassium daily. I had severe congestive heart failure and was hospitalized three years ago. Since then, I was pretty stable until I changed my medication. I still have two weeks of diovan left, so I plant to switch back to diovan to see if it will make a difference. If it relieves my problems, I will have to accept the higher price of $45 a month. What do you think?

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
You can go ahead with Diovan for now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

For now, you can go ahead with Diovan instead of Losartan to see if it improves your symptoms.

If there is a significant improvement in your present symptoms, that means Diovan would be the...

Hi I am a 39yr old female. I have just been diagnosed with high blood pressure and have been given Diovan 80mg, which i have just started taking a few days ago. I have also been thinking about taking apidexin for weight loss . Can I take it at the same time as Diovan? Are there any negative effects if I were to do that? What about if i take the herbal pill Macqui 6 together with Diovan? Would that have any negative effects? Thanks

doctor1 MD

hi
apidexin is mainly use as fat burner tab and is safe to take with diovan tab which is a combination of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide and use in high bp
avoid salt as u can
better to avoid herbal pill as it has no proven effects and they do not mention exact contain and side effect and...

Hi, I started taking Diovan this summer after having an ICD implant. There is a strong odor in my nostrils that affects my taste and it is generally unpleasant. I'm sure it is the Diovan although I am on many other meds (unfortunately). Any thoughts? Thanks, Jerry

my husband was on placed on diovan after another stent (he had had previous open heart bypass). He had been on both cozaar and exforge together. He was experiencing some arrhythmias and also swelling in feet and hands. Cardiologist put him on diovan and took him off the cozaar/exforge but didn't document. Now his mail order pharmacy is refusing to fill the diovan saying he must go back to cozaar and exforge. The cardiologist doesn't seem concerned. why are we being taken off of something that has been working so we can re-document something that didn't work? (and the cardiologist did send two requests to continue patient on diovan) how much will this harm my husband - do the drugs essentially do the same things?

Hello, my husband has developed a sudden and moderately severe rash (hives?). He has most recently had lidocaine shots and topical ointment. He also has started to take Lipitor and Diovan within the last 2 months. Could the rash be caused by these medications and is it serious? Thank you.

I am a 71 yr. old woman and have taken Diovan for many years because of episodes of high blood pressure. But this was at least 15-10 yrs. ago and I have had no high blood pressure. I always have low blood pressure with a very low pulse (40-45) which has caused concern with another doctor of mine. I have no energy or desire to do anything. Yesterday I didn t take my pill and I felt normal. But my concern is how to get off the medication, as I know it is not good to just stop taking a medication altogether. I need to know what I should do in coming off this medication.

I had been taking Diovan for a number of years and insurance company suggested I replace Diovan with the Losartan since it was cheaper. I took 50 mg. of the Losartan yesterday morning. Noticed a tight feeling in chest yesterday afternoon. At the time I went to bed (around 12:30 a.m.) I experienced severe pain in left side of chest, radiating through back and left shoulder. Took two nitro pills and dropped off to sleep. Upon arising this a.m. I again experienced pain in the same area, got a little scared and got very hot. Tried to stay calm, ate some breakfast and felt some better. Also, severe hurting in upper right arm where large muscles join together. I had a heart attack latter part of 2005 and diagnosed several years ago with fibromyalgia. I am 77 years old, active for my age, caring for 88-year-old husband who suffered a stroke six months ago. I hesitate to go to ER this a.m. due to home situation and long wait getting medical attention.

My MPV came back at 10.7 fL, lab reference range of 6.0 to 10.8 fL. Platelet count is 216k/uL. All other CBC components look good. Full CBC is attached. All other tests related to the nephrology work up came back normal. Thoughts?
