Question: Hi
I've been suffering from severe heart burn due to Hiatus Hernia (concluded from endoscopy) from past 1 year. I've been advised to take Esomeprazole 40 mg daily. But, when I forget to take this medicine, I'll have to suffer with severe heart burn sensation. I need permanent solution for my problem.

Hi XXXXXXX do not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM
Thank you for your query
I understand your concern
Hiatus hernia is loosening of the valve which is present at the junction of stomach and esophagus.
This causes part of stomach to move into chest wall.
This results in reflux of stomach acid and contents into esophagus leading to symptoms
The medication help in reducing this reflux and thus control of symptoms.
But the medications need to be taken long term.
No medication can correct this anatomical defect permanently.
Laproscopic surgery can help in tightening of this valve thus curing the defect and correct it permanently.
Otherwise sleeping in head end of bed elevated position, avoiding lying down two hours after meals regular walk, reducing weight if overweight, avoiding coffee aerated drinks will help you reduce the dose of medications.
Hope this answers your query

Can I go for Laproscopic surgery then? because I can't bear that sensation. Also, I heard that long term use of Esomeprazole will cause the bones to weaken. Are there any alternate medications for this ? If so, please suggest me .
