Brief Answer:
Headache can be due to pressure implicated by braces..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your query headache after tightening up of braces can be most probably due to pressure implicated over the teeth and jaws which can also radiate to the head..

When gradually the teeth must start moving to the appropriate location for which pressure is applied then the headache must be gradually subsided..

However sore throat does not seems to be due to braces and seems to be due to throat infection..

So in my suggestion you can either get a clinical evaluation done by some other Orthodontist if your present Orthodontist is not able to solve your problem..

By reducing the amount of pressure applied everytime during tightening of braces can reduce the severity of headache..

For sore throat you can consult a Physician and she can be advised a short course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
Doing warm saline gargles and steam inhalation can help in relieving sore throat..

Please revert back for further queries..

Regards..
