default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: My son is in a nursing facility and has developed a skin problem on his side-started as hard bumps but is now a hard growth type thing that is flaky and bleeds a little if I try to aggressively clean the area. I would like to treat it but do not know if its a fungus or what.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query for your son who is in nursing facility.
Noted that he has developed a hard bump on his side but is now hard growth type, flaky and bleeds a little on aggressive cleaning. Using soap and water and aloe lotion.

Please give a few more details for me to assist you better.
- Since when has he got this problem?
- What is the exact location? Was it on the pressure point?
- What is the size and the shape?
- Any other information you would like to share?

Please post clear pictures so that on-the-spot diagnosis is possible in some cases. Till then apply liquid povidone iodine to the affected part and skin around it.
Please feel free to ask for relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Brief Answer:
Please consult a General Surgeon.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your clear close up picture.
This surely is not a fungus.
This shows very hypertrophied scar going through various stages. And needs an attention of a General Surgeon. You can not do anything to such a lesion on your own, nor can be treated by anything locally.

A clinical evaluation, FNAC or biopsy to see what exactly is this and excision surgically may only be the proper treatment.
