Suggest Treatment For Gonorrhea
Question: GONORRHEA-CHLAMYDIA
Hello doc, i recently contracted gonorrhea and was given 2 gr of Azithromycin one dose and 500 mg ciprofloxacin day 3 and the burning symptom is gone but there is a little bit clear discharge inside the penis its not runny but bothers me alot..
my questions are
1- is 2 gr of azithromycin and 500 mg cipro enough for the treatment?
2- does those medicines also effective for the throat gonorrhea?
3-how long does it take to heal the discharge after treatment ?

I have gone through your query and i have understood it
Azithromycin 2 gm single dose is effective for urethral invovement with gonorrhea as well as chlamydia.
However, throat involvement with gonorrhea is more difficult to eradicate as compared to urethritis.
Quinolones e.g ciprofloxacin and Injectables like Ceftriaxone are preferred over other antibiotics for treatment of pharyngeal gonorrhea.
However single dose of ciprofloxacin is grossly inadequate. Treatment with quinolones i.e ciprofloxacin is for a week, particularly for throat gonorrhea.
Therefore,though you have been treated adequately for urethritis but not adequately for throat invovement.
Discharge and burning sensation should go away completely by 7 days.
Symptoms like discharge and burning sensation usually lessens within 3-5 days of starting treatment.
