I've had an upper gi which showed inflammation redness but no where near where the burning is. No one can figure out what it is. Have had ex rays, ultrasounds, catscan and nothing shows. Dr says gastritis and gave me meds but it's been 3 weeks and symptoms are the same. Tested for h pylori and found nothing or any other major problem.

Brief Answer:
Gastritis takes time to cure and do a Thyroid profile for weight gain.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to H.C.M.

I have gone through the history given by you and understand your concerns.

Lot of weight gained in a short amount of time in female may be due to Hypothyroidism.

To rule out Hypothyroidism, you need to check up for Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free T4 and free T3.

No need to worry because stress also increases symptoms due to gastritis.

I think that your doctor is correct about diagnosis that Pain and burning sensation in upper left stomach near ribs is due to Gastritis.

Gastritis will be cured but it takes time. Please tell me that what medicines you have taken.

I advise my patient to follow these steps for gastritis-

1) Avoid tea, coffee, smoking, spicy foods and alcohol.

2) Avoid any pain killer that is N.A.I.D.S.

3) Follow regular routine of meals and sleep.

4) Syp- Mucaine Gel 2 TSF thrice a day for 7 days.

5) Syp- Sucralfate 2 TSF twice a day for 7 days.

6) Tablet Pan D twice a day for 7 days.

Discuss regarding these medications with your doctor. Review after 7 days.
If symptoms persist after 1 month of treatment then repeat Upper GI endoscopy.

Hope this answers your question.

Please do not hesitate for any query.

I will be happy to answer your questions.
