Question: I HAVE A FEEDING TUBE DUE TO TROUBLE SWALLOWING FOLLOWING SURGERY FOR THROAT CANCER TWO YEARS AGO. JEVITY 1.5 IS MY MAIN SOURCE OF NUTRITION--SOMETIMES IN A SMOOTHIE WITH FRUIT. IN THE LAST MONTH OR SO, I HAVE STARTED TO EXPERIENCE URGENT NEED TO HAVE BOWEL MOVEMENTS WHICH GENERALLY ARE MOSTLY LIQUID OR SIMPLY GAS. I AM 70 YEAR OLD MALE WHO EXERCISES REGULARLY AND STRONGLY. I USE CREATINE AND L-ARGININE SUPPLEMENTS AND TAKE SIMVASTATIN, TERAZOSIN, LISINOPRIL, MULTIVITAMINS AND COQ=Q10

Changes in bowel movements: following causes to rule out...

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

I read you message carefully and understood your concern.

Diarrhea is a quite common complication in cases of using a feeding tube.

I am glad to that you are quite fit and try to exercise regularly. All drugs you take and supplements are just fine. They help you maintain your general health and heart function.

My advice is to add a little bit more fibers in your diet and decrease the flow rate of feeding in the next days. Probiotics to be added to your treatment.

I would think over a possible infection, so I advise to send a stool sample to the lab to detect if there is any C. difficile infection or candida overgrowth; if confirmed, to get treated adequately.

I hope this is helpful for you. Let me know if you have further queries; I'd be glad to assist you further.
