Suggest Treatment For Fibromyalgia

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Jun 2017
Question: Hi, I would like to find out what this pain is. When I press firmly on my arms and legs especially (when I am having a massage), the pain is absolutely terrible. It does not feel like a muscle pain. Is that like Fybromyalgia? I also have terrible swelling on my arms and legs. Is there any medication I can take to ease or stop this?

Brief Answer:
Fibromyalgia is the name of the symptom.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. You need to be evaluated clinically in order to ascertain the cause of pain. Contrary to popular belief fibromyalgia is not a cause of pain. It mere means algia=pain of fibro=fibro fatty tissue and myo=muscle. In other words, it is just the name of the symptom similar to the term fever for rise of temperature (fever is not the cause of rise of temperature, it is just the name of the symptom). You therefore could have fibromyalgia but the underlying cause needs to be determined.

Acupuncture is known to provide relief in such situations and you can give it a try. You can otherwise try taking paracetamol or acetaminophen two tablets of 500 mg together (1g is the analgesic dose). Alternatively you could try Aleve (naproxen). Be sure to take these in full stomach.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
