Brief Answer:
Specific symptoms would indicate source

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcaremagic,

As you would know, the symptoms present are non specific symptoms of infection. Viral and bacterial infection are most common. Additonal symptoms along with signs, would then determine the site and type of infection present.

If there are no other symptom or signs on examination then, in in most cases, a viral infection is considered with treatment mainly consisting of rest, fluids and medication for pain and fever.

Signs would examination findings. If there are no specific symptoms pinpointing the source of infection, your doctor would need to do a general assessment.
This would require examination of ENT, chest/lungs skin , abdomen and an urinalysis to rule out urinary tract infection.
If source is identified, then this is treeated.

If not, then treatment is as mentioned above, unless your symptoms are severe. If that is the case, then bloods would be needed.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
