Posted on Wed, 1 Oct 2014
Question: I am 3 weeks post TURP surgery. In the first 2 weeks, the stream got forceful and very long. Now the stream is less and constant emptying every 1/2 hour. I also feel like there is a lump in my anus. Should I see the doctor about this....Could this be bladder neck swelling. I am 59 years old fairly young for the TURP.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to Stricture urethra.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have undergone TURP for enlarged prostate 3 weeks back.and now noticed urine stream to be weak and have frequency of urination,

These symptoms are mostly due to narrowing of urethra (Flimsy Stricture ) which is common after TURP due to instrumentation or UTI.

Please get your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefexine along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Consult operating Urologist he may doe endoscopic examination to confirm the diagnosis and if needed he may do Optical Internal Urethrotomy.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,
I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
