Question: My daughter, 24 had mono 18 months ago. She gets sick on an almost regular basis since then. Fatigue , sore throat, overall bad feeling. Could this still be the mono virus? Should she get a further work up? She is very frustrated and feeling hopeless.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be the same virus.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic.

There are at least 200 varieties of viruses that are responsible for our catching cold. So it is not necessarily the same virus that had caused the mono. Such viruses attack when our immunity is low. Thus it seems that your daughter is not having proper resistance. In such a case she has to eat well. She needs to take plenty of colourful vegetables and fruits. She also needs to take green leafy vegetables as well as fish, eggs and meat (if she is a non-veg eater). She also needs to back it up with proper exercise.

Ask her to take steam inhalation whenever she catches cold. It will help in diluting the cough and thereby provide relief.

I do not think that any workup is required at the moment.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
