Suggest Treatment For Eye Pain And Distorted Vision While Having Keratoconus

Question: I have a long history of Keratoconus. 4 failed transplants a K-pro implant (lasted 18 months then removed) and another graft. Along with 2 shunts for pressure. Eye is now blind and slowly shrinking and dying. I am wondering how long this process takes before eye has to removed? eye is quite painfull. Iam using a lot of Ibuproen 1800 mg/day. In your opinion would it be overkill to be on Percocet for pain? Do you have any other recommendations

My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
This eye is taking up a lot of ibuprofen.Percocet is no big deal,assocated with another set of general side effects.In such cases,we usually have to find out the medication with total control of pain and minimal side effects.
Usually once the process starts,in a few months shrinkage is very apparent.A painful,unsighly,non seeing eye has to be removed and with placem4of a suitable prosthesis,dependence in medication is gone.That is the option I would prefer if shrinkage is beyond 70%.This is only a aesthetic issue.A t some point if cornea is not sensitive then a prosthesis over non removed eye can always be tried,but that still requires medication for pain,so removal of eye iwith prosthetic implant becomes treatment of choice.
