Suggest Treatment For Elevated PSA Levels

Question: In 1993 I took over the counter Primatene Mist, due to having to live with a number of cats and my allergy to cat dander. I was turned down for life insurance due to high PSA. Since then I have continued to have a high PSA. I need to get a new life insurance policy this year as my policy triples in price. My most recent PSA reading was 20.2, up from 15.9 at the end of January. I'm thinking the recent increase is due to inflammation. What can help bring down my PSA reading to more "acceptable" levels for insurance companies?

Brief Answer:
Prostate Cancer can be a concern for the insurance company

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Sir, PSA has utility as a prostate cancer marker. It can also be elevated in prostatitis or an enlarged prostate. There are no medication available to lower the PSA levels. The insurance company can have reservations regarding your risk of having prostate cancer and you should rule that out. So the question is if you have elevated levels, what should you do next ?

Let me explain, after a repeat level that confirms PSA elevation ( which you have already done) , a DRE ( Digital rectal exam ) should be done to look for any lump. Repeat levels and DREs should be done. Urinalysis, trans rectal ultrasound can be advised if the screening results in suspicion of prostate cancer. Biopsy of the prostate would confirm or rule out prostate cancer and can be advised accordingly, in consult with you doctor.
