Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection With Hearing Loss

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Dec 2015
Question: About 2 weeks ago I developed an infection in one ear and fluid in the other. I could no longer hear and was put on antibiotics and antihestomines, still no change. What should I do next? Can I fly? There is pressure in each ear always, but for different reasons. My last trip to the doctor show the redness and infection was much better and that was on Nov 23. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Does not sound permanent in any way, flying is best avoided ma'am

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The temporary hearing loss along with an infection could be a sign of otitis media or interna, or a few other infections which are a little more difficult to treat. But as long as you were diagnosed and are on antibiotics, you should soon recover completely.

The fact that you doctor did find signs of improvement during your last follow-up visit is a good sign, but that still does not mean you have recovered completely which makes flying a little risky and with your best intentions at heart, I would vote against it.

I would also like to ask a few more questions if you do not mind, to better understand what exactly is happening:

+Are you still on antibiotics? If yes, which one(s) and for how long have you been on them, and how much longer does your doctor want to keep you on them?
+How is your hearing now?
+Do you experience any headaches due to the ears?
+Is flying completely necessary or just for leisure?
+Did your doctor by any chance share the diagnosis with you?

I do not think this is permanent, and it should not be, but it will take some time to get you back to normal health and ear function. I look forward to hearing from you in order to help you further. :)

Best wishes XXXXXXX :)
