Suggest Treatment For Ear Infection When Diagnosed With Mastoiditis

default
Posted on Mon, 15 May 2017
Question: I had not been feeling well for over a month, and then two weeks ago I developed an ear infection that quickly went from being annoying, to my ear drum rupturing that night, followed by pain that kept getting worse and worse. Within two days and multiple Dr, clinic, urgent care centre, and hospital visits with pain worst that giving birth to either of my two children, someone finally figured out I had mastoiditis. I have been treated on IV ceftriaxone 2g for almost two weeks now. I have greatly improved, the pain is manageable (though I'm still regularly on tramadol and advil and occasionally hydromorphone), and I think the infection is gradually going away. My ear is still draining blood and pus, it feels like it's absolutely full of water that I can't get any relief from, I have tinnitus and otherwise cannot hear out of it. Should I be an urgent referral to a ENT? No one seems to this is that urgent....

Brief Answer:
Acute mastoiditis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query
You are having acute mastoiditis. It can take few weeks to be fine once infecinfect ion subsides.
The drum perforation is treated once the ear is completely dry. Don't worry and continue taking the medicines. You should definitely get yourself examinedby an ENT SPECIALIST because it might need to be manually cleaned and checked for any other cause for bleedingfrom ear.
Avoid any water entering into the ear.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Take care
Thanks and regards
