default
Posted on Mon, 3 Aug 2015
Question: I have deviated nasal septum with hyper nasal turbinate. I was suffering from sinus which was cured by antibiotic and nasal spray. But I am persistently suffering dry cough and post nasal drip. Morning is ok, but the cough increase in the night time.
I consulted with ENT specialist and he suggested for septoplasty. My breathing is not much troubling but have partially blocked at right no strike. Need your opinion.

Brief Answer:
You are most probably having chronic allergic rhino-sinusitis with DNS

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX ,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having chronic allergic rhino-sinusitis with deviated nasal septum (DNS) & turbinate hypertrophy .

It results into post nasal drip which causes dry cough .

Antibiotic & nasal spray will give you relief but once you stop medication problem will reoccurs due to anatomical obstruction in nose ventilation with allergy .

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice
do septoplasty with turbinate reduction . It will improve sinuses ventilation & decrease secretion production in nose coming to throat .

Till then for post nasal drip & dry cough , i would advice
Use saline nasal spray or rinse thrice daily ,
salt water gargle twice daily &
continue nasal spray .

Gargle with water 20 mins after nasal spray use to remove any spray coming to throat .

You will get relief .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.

I have loose motions sometimes. Like dark bowl movement and generation of gas. Is it due to continuous swallowing of mucus?

It is because of combination of gastroesophageal reflux disease & PND.

Stomach problems you are having is because of combination of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) & infected post nasal drip (PND).

A lifestyle changes , sleeping at time and eating 2-3 hours before lying down will help . Avoid spicy, fried, oily food and food that causes discomfort.
