Suggest Treatment For Dizziness Despite Taking Botox Injections

Question: I have had dizzyness for two weeks. I have migraines, but they have under control for years with botox injections. Now they have increased. I had colon cancer in 1997 with a resection. Since then I have had bowel problems, the last month has seen this get worse. My internist did blood work which all came back normal except my potassium came back 5,3. The lab said 3.5 to 5 was normal. And that 5.3 was high but the internet says 5.3 is normal Should I be concerned about the potassium? I read that high levels can cause dizzyness and bowel problems.

Brief Answer:
Without symptoms, this value should be controlled.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this dizziness and bowel problems that you have. What is the problem with your bowl habits? Please, spell them out for an independent second opinion. When there is no symptom accompanying a finding of high magnesium levels, then it is most likely that the laboratory measure is wrong as there are many cases of false high potassium levels than they are actually supposed to be. I will suggest that you go ahead and get this potassium level controlled. Also, describe the dizziness in more details to state exactly what you mean. I am afraid this information is not explicit enough to evaluate your symptom and make very specific recommendations.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Bowel problems are voiding at least three times a day. On a bad day sometimes three times in two hours, with maybe a total of five or six movements. Sometimes well formed, sometimes diahrea. When I have bowel movements, the urgency and cramping are unpleasant.
Dizzyness comes and goes during the day in all positions. It can happen when I bend down, and the next time not. It can happen when I am sitting, knitting, and move my head. It has happened when I am lying down and I think my head was still. Sometimes I feel a tingle or light shock going down the left side of my body into my leg. Not painful but unpleasant.
I had vertigo several years ago. This does not feel the same. When I had vertigo it was much more severe than this. It reponded quickly to exercises I did.
The nurse practitioner checked my ears this week and said I had a little fluid in the left ear but now enough to cause problems.

Brief Answer:
This could be irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): Motility related!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this detailed follow up.

I have reviewed this information fully. This somewhat points to the possibility of irritable bowel syndrome. I will rather suggest that you get to try a medication called loperamide. This will help reduce the frequency of your stools and control the cramps. Should the cramps persist, add hyoscine 10mg tablets twice daily as well.

These medications are available over the counter. Let me know how helpful you find this and please keep me updated.
