Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: I got a brief cramp in my left thumb today - went away quickly but never happened before. I was like a foot cramp where the thumb felt "pulled in" next to the index finger. What could cause this?

Not of worry much.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern. A single cramp of brief duration in thumb is not of much worry. Causes of this is similar to cramps in calf and foot however it is less common at thumb. In my opinion these are likely to be due to vitamins and trace element deficiencies.

I will suggest you to got following test to see cause .
1.Serum Vitamin D
2.Serum Vitamin B12
3.Blood sugar fasting and PP(Diabetic status)
4.T3,T4 and TSH (thyroid function test)

Furthermore I empirically treat my such persons coming to my clinic by:-
1.EVION LC (vitamin E and L-Carnitine combination)
2.VITAMIN B COMPLEX AND VITAMIN C
3.CALCIUM

VitaminD3 and Mecobalamin(vitaminB12) may be added if found low.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
