Suggest Treatment For Cough, Fever And Strep Throat

default
Posted on Fri, 8 May 2015
Question: I am currently recovering from a bad case of strep. My 5 year old daughter accidentally drank after me the day before I presented with symptoms. Two days later, (Wed), she mentioned that she had a stomach ache, but didn't bring it up again. She went to her grandparents house that night, and came home today and again complained throughout the day of a stomach ache, right in the center of her stomach. She was able to get up and play but didn't have much of an appetite. I pushed on her stomach and asked if it hurt and she said yes but she didn't cry or anything. She does have a slight cough also. She had a slight fever (100.1) My dr called her in antibiotics for strep. The pains seem worse after eating. I am an anxious mom, but for some reason this is nagging at me. She's never had a stomach ache before. She is sleeping normally now, but I am afraid she has an appedencitis or something and I am just too exhausted to see it.

Brief Answer:
It is more likely to be due to gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the mentioned details. I do not think that it has any connection with Strep. Rather, it seems to be a case of hyperacidity and gastritis. In order to determine the exact cause, she needs to be clinically examined, something that I do not have access to. So, you should get her evaluated by your pediatrician. He would also be able to say if there is a chance of it being due to appendicitis. The pain of appendicitis is located in lower right abdomen and not anywhere else. Unless that is the case, you need not worry about appendicitis.

For gastrtis, I would suggest the following:
* Give her Prilosec (Omeprazole) once daily before breakfast
* Small but frequent meals

Since you have started the antibiotics, please complete the course. Give her tylenol for fever.
