Suggest Treatment For Cough, Cold And Stuffy Nose

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: My kid has cold and a bit of stuffy nose. Some time back she had cough and she vomited all she ate. As the end she was coughing and spitting out sputum and it had some red tinge like blood spots. Is there anything to worry ?

She started to cough earlier this evening and it is night here.

She is ok and no other issues or breathing issues. She got stuffy nose, and it is start of summer here and not sure if that is causing the cold.

Will keep a close watch.

Brief Answer:
It appears to be minor mucosal trauma due to persistent cough

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

I won't get overly worried for small amount of blood in sputum as it is common following minor tear to the mucosa following persistent cough/vomiting.
The common cause of cough and cold in this age is some viral infection or allergy.
I would like to know if there is any breathing problem or noisy breathing associated with cough.
In case of persistence of cough I suggest you to consult a pediatrician for prescription of some decongestant/anti allergic(cetrizine and phenylephrine) with cough syrup(bronchodilator and mucolytic combination like salbutamol and ambroxol) and for clinical evaluation to check any associated spasm of airways.

I hope this helps.
I shall be glad to answer if you have any queries.
Regards
