Suggest Treatment For Cough And Cold In Children
Question: my baby is 1yr old and from past few weeks she is continuously getting cold and fever. when we consult local pediatrician he gave T-minic, sumo suspension ( paracetamal) initially. it was cured and again due to whether changes with in 3days she became sick. we just used ibugesic plus for 3 days. she was okay for 2days and we dropped in daycare for 2days again she got severe cold and fever. doctor advised ibugesic plus and Allegra for 7days

Cough and cold are common in children and generally caused by certain viruses. Some children are more prone to catching cold and get may get such episodes frequently.
The treatment is supportive and your pediatrician has rightly guided you. In case of viral infections, it is often associated with high rise of temperature. Ibugesic Plus is more effective than paracetamol in relieving fever and may be given. Allegra is an anti allergic and has been prescribed since such infections have an allergic component as well.
Most often such infections last for 5-7 days and resolve on its own irrespective of the use of antibiotics.
Since you have already consulted a pediatrician, I do not think that further health checkup is required for this episode. But if the child is getting recurrent episodes of cough and cold, I would have liked to examine her chest for signs of super added infection and the throat for evaluating tonsillar enlargement.
I would have also liked to go for a complete blood count where rise in total leucocyte count would have indicated a bacterial infection and the requirement of antibiotics. If the fever lasts for more than 7 days, I would have also liked to get her evaluated to rule out typhoid as a cause. So, if you are going in for a health checkup, you can keep the above points in mind.
