Brief Answer:
NSAIDS may be required for healing.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thanks for posting your query .

Looking in to the picture that you have provided the bruise is quite evident but it seems to be on healing stage . You have already used RICE method that is best for in acute injury . Due to twisting of ankle there is edema or swelling of the underlying tissue which sometimes does not heals with conservative measures or there may be some minor ligament tear .

In such situation if a patient comes to me I would advise a short course of NSAIDS like Naproxen 500 mg twice daily for 5 days to relieve the swelling plus relieving the pain thus joint can be mobilised smoothly . I think you should consult with your treating doctor regarding this and if he agrees then it can be followed. The numbness and tingling will also go as the injury heals.

Take care.

How do you suggest mobilizing it? I have been wrapping it and wear a lace up ankle brace. It seems to help a lot with walking. I have some numbness and tingling on the top of my foot by my toes.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thanks for reverting back.

If you are wearing the brace thats fine with me , it will provide the external support that is needed for injured foot. The nerves which supply the sensory area of feet passes through the ankle and thus when there is injury swelling leads to decrease in the area through which they pass thus leading to the tingling and numbness. As the lesion will heal the swelling will subside and thus the excess pressure over the nerve is released and the sensory symptoms subside.
