Question: Hi, i recently used box hair dye with ammonia in it about 4-5 days ago. I was in a closed off room, with a small window. I inhaled the fumes through the whole time I was in there. I tried walking back and forth to get fresh air but it followed from my hair. I now experience trouble swallowing, it feels like my nose is congested, I have tightness in my chest when I breath, I feel weak , dizzy and tired all the time. I also feel like my heart skips a beat which feels slow and scares me. Help?

Brief Answer:
Possible allergic reaction to hair dye ..

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

The symptoms you are describing are suggestive for allergic reaction to the hair XXXXXXX you used. I advise to wash your hairs frequently to remove the hair XXXXXXX

Keep the house or room where you stay well ventilated. Go out and take fresh air.

You can use an over the counter anti-histamine drug to ease breathing. However, you should remove the XXXXXXX from your hair as soon as possible. That will be your permanent solution.

If no improvement or if it will become more difficult to breathe, go to ER immediately.

Hope it helped! Let me know if you need further clarifications!

Ok, I have another question about the symptoms... I also have ear aches, my tongue and back of my throat looks abit abnormal, and i also have pains in both sides of my neck. I also might think it might not be the hair XXXXXXX and possible might be from when i was washing my neck and i pushed too hard and heard a popping sound. Could i have done something to cause these symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Possible muscle strain;apply warm pads...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Hope everything is ok with your hair dye!

The pain in both sides of your neck might be related to:
- muscle pull (strain)
- abnormal cervical vertebrae movements

that might have been happened when you pushed too hard while washing your neck.

As long as you can move your neck normally, there is no harm coming from that. Try to not push hard next time.

I also advise to apply warm pads locally to help relieve the pain. The use of acetaminophen or ibuprofen can also help.

All the best my dear!
