Question: Good Morning, My son 17 is having blood in his stool, quite a bit not only in the stool, but also on the toilet paper. No pain, no straining, no obvious fisure. This has been occuring for about the last three weeks, but not at every bowel movement.

Brief Answer:
get stool complete examination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Painless blood in stools at this age indicates probably a gut infection.
It is better to get his stool complete examination and culture.
If pus cells or bacteria are seen then a course of antibiotics should help.
If not, then he will need a gastoenterologist consultation to rule out other intraabdominal causes like colitis, hemarrhoids , etc
Regards
Dr Arun
