Suggest Treatment For Bladder Infection

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Nov 2014
Question: Hello, I had a bladder infection about 3 weeks ago, took Bactrim the entire 7 days but it never seemed to be totally better. I still had some discomfort. I am again feeling discomfort after I urinate and it burns a little bit when I am going at times (not everytime). This past week I have been experiencing pain in my right side. Seems to be just below the rib cage and I can feel it in my back sometimes too. I don't have the pain all the time, and it feels like a "stitch" in my side. I am not sure if this could be related to the previous bladder infection.

Brief Answer:
It is due to the previous infection ma'am

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. From the provided information, it seems as though your infection never left. Inadequate treatment can often lead to a quick recurrence and/or incomplete relief from symptoms.

This almost certainly has to do with the previous bladder infection ma'am, and so I would request you to revisit your doctor and request for a urine culture and sensitivity examination. This investigation has the following benefits:

-Confirm the infection
-Inform us about the infection causing organism
-Test the organism against numerous antibiotics to find the most suitable and effective ones, and those which are resistant (ineffective)

This will provide your doctor with a more clear picture on directing you towards rapid and effective treatment. In the meantime, you could consider the following:

+Drink plenty of water
+Avoid sexual contact in all forms until 2 weeks from the last dose of the advised treatment
+Cranberry juice as tolerated
+Maintain good personal hygiene
+Change your pads regularly if you have your period
+1 tablespoon of baking soda in a glass of water at least 2-3 times a day

I hope you find my response helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you.

Best wishes.
