Suggest Treatment For Arthritis Pain In Fingers

Posted on Tue, 24 Feb 2015
Question: I have arthritis in my fingers. Until last night the pain hasn't been too much. It has been generally very low indeed, except when doing things like weeding or opening very tight jars, when it has been at a medium level, about five on a 10-point scale. Late last night it was at a pain level of about five when resting, and this had gone up to six by this morning. When typing today (I am a writer and editor) the pain level was about eight, which made writing very difficult. Until today, I haven't particularly noticed pain while typing. I tried Voltarin gel on the advice of a chemist, and it did drop the pain level back a little - to about four when resting and about six when typing.

Hello,

I have studied your case with diligence.
I will like to ask few questions so that I can help you better.

Arthritis of hand can be degenerative[ age related] or it can be due to rheumatoid arthritis.
Which kind of arthritis do you have?
Since how long you have arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis may involve small joints and early morning stiffness in joints, do you have such complain?

Awaiting for your reply.

When the doctor talked to me, she just said: "You have arthritis." She did not say what kind of arthritis.
It is in the small joints of my fingers, particularly the index finger and little finger of my right hand. The little finger is noticably bent at the joint at nearest the finger nail. The index finger is quite swollen around the joint nearest the nail. All my finger joints have some degree of stiffness - more so in the morning, but all day. I can still make a fist, but the last bit now takes some effort.
There is very low level pain in the top joint of my right little finger and the middle joints on both hands. The really noticeable pain is in the top joint of my index finger. That is quite high level for just over 24 hours now, compared with the very low level in the other finger joints.

Brief Answer:
As per your symptoms there is possibility of rheumatoid arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case with diligence.

As per your symptoms there is possibility of rheumatoid arthritis.
When such patients come to our hospital I advise them blood test like RA factor, ACCP, ESR, complete blood count, HLA B27.

You can do blood test consulting your doctor.
Till time you may consult physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.

If rheumatoid arthritis is confirmed then you need to take specific anti rheumatoid drug.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
