Suggest Treatment For Anxiety, Panic Attacks And Depression
Question: 5 1/2 months pregnant with third child. Have been experiencing anxiety that leads to panick attacks and eventually depression. Feeling of being overwhelmed. Never felt like this before...I am feeling that it must be hormonal because I haven't been able to control it. Would like to avoid medication if possible. What can I take that is natural to help me with these feelings? I have read that valerian root can help but have read mixed reviews on its safety in pregnancy. Also, can this be affecting my unborn child?

The symptoms you have described are present in hyperthyroidism, on which there is excessive activity of thyroid hormone, and in adrenal gland tumour or increased blood pressure. Both of these have adverse effects like intrauterine growth restriction and sudden intrauterine death of fetus. Investigations like thyroid hormone levels, ultrasound and MRI may be needed so that appropriate treatment can be done.
I would not suggest you to take any herbal medicine in pregnancy, whose exact effect on the fetus and pregnancy is not known.
I suggest you to consult your OBGYN specialist as soon as possible so that proper examination and investigations are done. Kindly upload the reports of these tests for me to view.
