Suggest Treatment For Abscess Caused By Bursted Bartholin Cyst

Question: Bartholin Cyst burst in the groin area. Purple and feverish. Doctor put me on Cephalixin and said to get an appointment with a surgeon. My concern is what can happen between now and seeing a surgeon? It is so raging red that I fear that the infection could spread to vital organs IE: my heart. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
No need to be worried about the spread.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As per your query, it seems to be an abscess. You have consulted a local doctor and he has started Cephalexin. Cysts are common in the groin area and are mostly due to ingrown hair. Sometimes they are infected and turn into abscess. Some burst open.

There is no need to worry about its spread to vital organs. Cephalexin will prevent its spread but the only treatment is its drainage. You should be concerned with seeing a surgeon as soon as possible. Surgeon will drain out the pus along with injectable Antibiotics and some necessary routine investigations.

Don't try to squeeze it out by yourself.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have further query, i will be happy to help.
