Posted on Wed, 28 Dec 2016
Question: Dx with cdiff 2.5 weeks ago. 10 days on flagyl and don't feel any better. Increasing abdominal pain, unable to have full bowel movement in 15 days. To have a bowel movement I have to use enema. I drank 1 bottle of magnesium citrate once a day for 3 days and nothing happened. Also tried multiple stool softness. Xrays just show alot of fecal matter. Dr says I am just constipated and that it should in time be ok if I keep taking laxatives. I seen dr for 3rd time today and I had a pulse of 132 and my normal is 60-70bpm. I was also running a fever, had weakness, look really pale and was chilling really bad. Extreme nausea and have to force myself to eat and drink. Dr sent me home with a suppository this time. Should I be more concerned about this.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care Magic.

By the description of your symptoms it looks like your abdomen infection could have got complicated.

I'm also worried about it being a obstruction of bowel loops /perforation in the bowel as you have mentioned about severe abdominal pain, constipation, fever and nausea.

I would suggest the following :

Please take all the laxatives advised by your doctor and if you don't feel any better in the next few hours, please get back to him and request him to get a CT scan done.

A normal X-ray definitely would rule out the possibility to a certain extent but not completely.
Also it'll be worthwhile to discuss with him regarding starting you on Vancomycin (orally if any obstruction/perforation ruled out) which is a better choice than flagyl in a severe condition like yours.

Hope this helps
Best wishes
