Brief Answer:
Abdominal ultrasound is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Upper middle abdomen is where stomach is located. The main problem with a knot in such location is to determine if its superficial or comes from abdominal cavity.
Superficial knot is usually a lipoma. It does not give pain however. And it does not appear suddenly, rather grows slowly through years.
Knot from abdominal cavity can be a hernia or something more serious like stomach tumor. Both types of knots can give pain in mentioned location.

I suggest you to have abdominal ultrasound done. It will tell about the knot nature and determine further action.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Is it possible to be a fixed hiatal? hernia? A few years ago, about 5, I could no longer go to #2 for over a month and my stomach was distended. They drew 2 liters of fluid out of my abdomen but did not give any diagnosis or treatment. I had the knot then too. I have heard this might cause these very symptoms.

Brief Answer:
Hiatal hernia can not be palpated from the outside.

Detailed Answer:
Hiatal hernia can not be palpated. This type of hernia appears as a part of stomach in the chest.
Few years ago you have had bowels obstruction. It could be due to adhesions or large intestine problem. I hope you have had colonoscopy in that time. If not, please do it as soon as possible. Gastroscopy seems advisable as well. But please start with an ultrasound.
