Suggest Treatment For IBS And Oral Thrush

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Nov 2016
Question: Hello, I think I might have Oral Thrush or Candida or IBS. All of the systems I have looked up have come to these three conclusions. Is there an over the counter med that will help. I have been taking a probiotic as well as a 7-day colon cleanse. I drink Ginger, Lemon tea every night. IS there anything I can take to get rid of this?

Hello XXXXXXX

I first want to say that there is a gap between what conventional medicine acknowledges via research and what problems are attributed to diseases by non-medical culture. I am not saying the latter is always incorrect - sometimes medical research just hasn't caught up.

I'll respond both as a medical physician and someone who went through an illness that wasn't readily diagnosed by conventional medicine:

First as a doctor: oral thrush can be diagnosed by seeing white patches in the mouth that bleed when scraped. It can be treated with an anti yeast oral medicine such as Nystatin which is swished in the mouth and then swallowed. This is by prescription.

Non-medical treatment of Candidal overgrowth in the body is to avoid simple carbohydrates such as anything with added sugar, or refined starchy food made from white flour. And no alcohol.

Now about my own experience as a person who had a lot of unexplained symptoms at one time: an assortment of symptoms can be attributed to Candida, or Chronic Fatigue, etc. I am not saying these diseases don't exist - I am saying you can find a similar list of symptoms for a number of illnesses and it is not diagnostic as it can be any one of them or something else.

Does that make sense?

That does make sense. At first, my tongue had a white film over it. I admit I panicked as most would do in my situation.

After reading, it's not Thrush, there is no blood or white patches. It was a white film that covered my tongue. I started to gargle water, take probiotics because during all of this I was constipated, and bloated and just not regular bowel movements.

My tongue now has a little of white patch towards the back that I keep trying to gargle salt water to get rid of. My tongue still gets's sore, and the red dots appear which I have read is just swallowed taste buds.

I have used some home remedies which have worked, I have tried to find something to treat Candida, but there is nothing for ORAL, it is all feminine meds.

I have been using a mouthwash that is all natural, no alcohol, and keeps my mouth from being too dry, which I was on clonidine and that makes my mouth really dry. I have stopped taking that.

I just want to get rid of this all together, I don't have healthcare right now, and I am under a lot of stress, just found out I am going to be a dad, work has been stressfully and I am on Wellbutrin for that as well.

is there anything YOU can do to help me rid this problem for good? I know it's hard via just messaging on the internet, but if I were in your office what could we do?

I've read on the internet it could be like four different things, and I understand GOOGLe could be a person's worst tool at times because it can be awfully negative.

Basically what I am asking if anything can be called in for Candida? Maybe that will help. I have been sleeping more, I just don't have the money to go to the doctors quite yet, thought this would be a better option recommended by my boss of the home health company I work for.

I think I only have one response left. Sorry this is so lengthy, I am just trying to get rid of the red tiny bumps and just have my mouth feel normal again,

Thank You

White film on your tongue can be from sinus drainage such as from allergies. It can also be from the mouth being too dry. Especially if it comes and goes or increases and decreases, rather than always looking exactly the same.

Yes, treatment for oral thrush is by prescription rather than an over the counter medicine.

I'd ignore the tiny red bumps.

Other than dryness, are you having pain in your mouth?

I do have allergies! They were all bad this summer.

Just towards the tip of my tongue, that seems to be the only part that hurts. and It's not really hurting, it's more of a burning towards the tip , which I have been using ice cubes on..

I don't think I have anymore replies left after this one. Anything you can do to help?

If the problem is allergies, you can try any of the following non-prescription things.

A nasal steroid such as Flonase: This can help stabilize the sinus membranes and result in less post nasal drainage. That's assuming that you have post nasal drainage. A steroid nasal spray takes a few days of regular use to work. And it can sometimes drip down the back of the throat so you may or may not want to use it.

An antihistamine such as cetirizine: Problem with antihistamines is they can be drying for some people which might not be the best if the problem is dry mouth.

A nasal saline spray or nettipot to wash out anything that is causing drainage. Can use it twice a day.

This is difficult to make recommendations without being able to see what is going on.

The burning at the tip of the tongue may be from a bit of acid reflux but if it isn't a big deal, I'd ignore it. If it is bothering you enough to use ice, consider using over the counter Zantac or it's generic ranitidine, which will decrease the acid.

Otherwise, unless the symptoms are very bad, try to ignore it as much as possible.
