Question: Hi, during a routine exam, the doctor discovered a tumor on my mom's kidney. Yesterday we went to a surgeon he recommended. We were told they don't know what it is, but it's 3 cm and it's on her kidney tube and the aorta. My question is can this be treated successfully and does this usually means cancer? He wants to biopsy it, but he is having trouble finding a radiologist to perform it. Can you please offer me any suggestions on treatment for such a case? Thanks, signed don't want anything to happen to mom

Brief Answer:
Please post reports - FNAC if can be done is good. Try to find the Doc.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and to know you concern for you Mother.

Read and understood the problems.
3 cm tumor on a kidney, tube and aorta may be taken as a cancer unless proved otherwise.

I would like to know a few things before I can go further:
How was the tumor located - by Ultrasonography or CT scan or MRI.
Is the tumor in the kidney (capsule) or out side the kidney ?
Can you please post the ''reports'' and the films of the investigations done ?

FNAC or core biopsy if don is always confirmatory and you should try to find a Radiologist as this is minimally invasive and gives great information.

Yes, this can be treated successfully in the hands of an expert and please do not force for the approach, whether open of robotic as this will depend upon many factors like the location of the tumor, expertise of the Surgeon, availability of the machines and so on...

Waiting for the reports.
Please feel free to ask further any relevant queries , I would be happy to assist.

hi, it was detected via a ct. They gave the results to her on a CD. They say it is behind the kidney sitting on top of the kidney tube and the aorta.

Please try to get the reports

Detailed Answer:
Please get the Report and post it as it should have definitely detailed the appearance, boundaries, infiltration or not, and possibility of this being a benign or a malignant lesion.

Yes it is for sure that this needs to be further investigated to see the nature and to plan the further mode of treatment.
