Brief Answer:
Alcohol flare up anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

Thank you for your Query.
since when you are taking alcohol and lorazepam?
whether your anxiety problem is first and you are taking alcohol as self medication or you are taking alcohol first than you have anxiety problem ?

first of all you want to quit alcohol as it flare up your anxiety though you feel it suppress anxiety.

Just visible thyroid below XXXXXXX apple does not mean you have thyroid problem. Do thyroid profile on empty stomach.
Even thyroid dysfunction also cause many psychiatric illness like anxiety disorder, depression etc...
As you tried lorazepam but there are also many medication which is safe and more helpful in anxiety and for alcohol withdrawal like chlordiazepoxide , diazepam etc..

consult psychiatrist for detail history and mental status examination.

Awaiting your response.

Thank you.

I did a thyroid profile nothing showed up.. I use alcohol to combat the anxiety.. The day after alcohol I seemed to be more relaxed.. My hair is very thin not from balding. I seem to have thyroid issues but blood work comes back fine.. I used methamphetimine 10 years ago. This all started when I used it. I believe it's a stress induced type of Graves' disease..

Brief Answer:
Quit alcohol and take treatment for anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

Graves disease is autoimmune disease and it is not stress induced.
yes your anxiety may be stress induced.

you need to quit alcohol otherwise your anxiety flares up though you have relaxation initially.
once you become alcohol addict then you have more anxiety on withdrawal or you have to take more amount of alcohol to reduce anxiety.

If your thyroid is normal, it's good thing.

Now consult psychiatrist for detail history and mental status examination.

There are many medication available for anxiety like SSRI (selective serotonin re uptake inhibitor), SNRI (serotonin and nor epinephrine re uptake inhibitor), NASA (nor epinephrine and serotonin antagonist) also benzodiazepins heps you a lot.

Thank you
