Suggest The Ideal Dosage For L-Theanine

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: Hello,
I currently take a variety of amino acids and find they very useful and effective. I take 5-htp 4 days a week at night for diet and brain and sleep. I also take DL- Phenylalanine for vitiligo and brain.
After reading about GABA, I wish to try L-Thanine and have ordered some. I want to see what dose is good for me, when to take it, and how effective it is. I hear some great stories about it. Can I mix with my mentioned acids and how about when drinking alcohol? I also take many other standard vitamins.
Thanks
doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

L-thianine has no robust clinical studies that show it is any more effective than placebo for any indication. Further, because it is not FDA approved for any indication, any L-thianine you order will be unregulated and therefore may contain other active ingredients, some of which may be harmful. I recommend not using this supplement. However, it would be safe to mix with your others supplements and to mix with alcohol.

Thanks for your reply. I'm keen to give it a try, as the other mentioned supplements certainly help me. Would there be a dosage that is best to take and a time? I take phenylalanine in the morning for a energy boost and 5htp near bed to promote melatonin. Good to hear it can be taken with my other supplements and my alcohol.
Thanks

Detailed Answer:
I would not take more than 250mg daily. Though again, there is no scientific evidence that any dose is more effective than placebo.
