Suggest Remedy For Sore Throat, Diarrhea And Sinus Infection

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Aug 2015
Question: I was cleaning out a house and came into contact with rodent feces for an extended period of time last Friday. As well as a lot of dust and dirt. The day after I had a very sore throat and started to feel feveous and weak. As the days progressed I I found it hard to breathe at times and have had diarrhea. I also developed a sinus infection and I was coughing up yellowish flem. I finally went to see a doctor yesterday. A first time visit for I do not have health insurance or a family doctor. I do not feel that he listened to my concerns and in fact he received a personal call while he was with me regarding a contractor trying to get into his house. Upon receiving that call he immediate wrote a prescription for an antibiotic called azithromycin. I took two capsules yesterday and one today. I started to feel a little better this morning. However, this evening I am once again having hot and cold spells, feeling weak, my nose is plugged and when I blow my nose a lot of yellow stuff comes out. As I read the effects of azithromycin I noticed that it can cause weakness, fever, diarrhea, etc... I have researched Hantavirus online and I am concern that if I wait too long to go to the hospital, it may be too late. For I have most of the symptoms of Hantavirus. However, the effects of the azithromycin are the same as Hantavirus. Therefore I am confuse as to whether I should go to the ER to be checked for Hantavirus or wait till I am off the medicine

Brief Answer:
There has never been hantavirus infection from rodents reported in the USA.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. Though your symptoms could raise suspicion with a hantavirus infection, this is a very rare infection. I will say hold on until you are off the azithromycin. This is a very rare infection and the absence of severe respiratory distress is not in support of hantavirus infection.

In all, wait until the drugs are over. This is not too typical of hantavirus given the surrounding symptoms and treatment with azithromycin.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
