Suggest Remedy For Right Sided Lower Abdominal Pain

Posted on Sat, 8 Aug 2015
Question: I'm currently in a fair amount of pain that extends across my lower abdomen and up the right side. It is accompanied with nausea, vomiting and fever. I have a flight back to my home country today but I'm not sure of what it is or if flying will make it worse. Either way I have no choice but to fly so I'm wondering if I should take any antibiotics till I get to the hospital tomorrow morning?
I have a lengthy medical history celiac, diverticular disease, polycystic ovaries, fatty liver disease, degenerative bone disease in the spine and had my gallbladder removed earlier this year. I have a few random meds around I can sub till I see the doctor is any of these going to help till I get there in 24hrs?
- buscopan - tramadol - clindamycin -

Brief Answer:
Some more details are necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Its really hard to advice about the medicines you should take not knowing what exactly you are dealing with. But lets try.
To do that I need to know some more details:
1. What is your heart rate.
2. How high is the fever.
3. Do you have diarrhea and if so, is there any blood or mucus in the stool.
4. Does the pain radiate to the back?
5. Do you have any frequent urinating, burning while urinating, blood in urine?
6. Please push the most painful area gently with your hand and release the pressure suddenly. Does the pain get more intense when releasing the pressure?
7. Is your abdomen bloated?
8. Do you have cramps?
9. Is your urine dark and stool pale?

I`m looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards.

Normal heart rate. Fever has stayed between 99* - 101*. No diarrhea, small movements soft but not liquid no blood or mucus. The pain is in the front only. No problem with urine. After pressing on the lower right the pain is the same, lower left is very painful but I was having a diverticular flair up earlier this week and was on a liquid diet. Mild inflammation in the intestine. No cramps, though the sharp pain feels similar to a cyst pain. No dark urine it's bright yellow, stool is light but not pale, sort of yellow green from Turmeric supplement.

Brief Answer:
Ciprofloxacine and Buscopan can help.

Detailed Answer:
Normal heart rate indicates that this is not bad for now. Fever and vomiting can be due to viral infection of gastrointestinal tract. If so, diarrhea should appear soon.
As you have had divertivculitis and there is left abdominal pain, antibiotic seems to be advisable. Ciprofloxacine can help. You should add Metronidazole (Flagyl) if you have one.
Buscopan is also fine and you can take it 3 times a day. Try to avoid solid foods and drink plenty of liquids.
Because of diveritulitis, you should see a doctor when you arrive.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
