Suggest Remedy For Muscle Weakness After An Ileostomy

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Nov 2015
Question: Hi,
My mom is 92, and has an ileostomy. She dehydrates quickly due that, and also our weather has been really hot and dry. She started getting muscle weakness today and a little disoriented. I don't live with her, but her caregiver called me. I told her to make sure she gets fluids, as that has been a cause of this in the past. Other than Gatorade and water, is there anything else that can help quickly? Or, could there be another cause of this?

Brief Answer:
Dehydration is the most likely cause...Fluids should help!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I have reviewed your mother's information full and it is consistent with dehydration. I will go with fluids now and expect a rapid relief. Unless this fails to get addressed within 4hours, I will not want to investigate for other possible causes such as electrolyte imbalances or an infection of the urinary tract especially.

In all, consistent with dehydration and continue with fluids as of now.

I wish her a speedy recovery and let me know if there is any more information you need from me. Thanks
