Suggest Remedy For Irritation On Penile Head

Posted on Fri, 18 Dec 2015
Question: A small part on the top of the head of my penis, has felt irritated for three days. There are no visible signs. It looks completely normal, not even red at all. It's extremely uncomfortable, and painful to go to work all day. I've taken off today, but have to work tomorrow. I have some anti fungal stuff as well as some preparation h here at home. Would you recommend using either? Any advice on how to ease the discomfort while I work? Thanks for your time

Brief Answer:
Antifungals are likely to be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Fungal infections are quite common and you can use antifungals like clotrimazole powder or lotion. I am not sure what preparations you have at home and so cannot comment upon it. Keep the area clean and dry and I hope that soon it should be fine.

I have Clotrimazole-Betamethasone, Lamisil AT and also antibiotic+pain relief ointment (bacitracin zinc, neomycin sulfate, polymyxin B sulfate, pramoxine HCI). Which would be best, can i use the antibiotic + pain relief ointment at same time as antifungal for posible relief of discomfort? Would you recommend anything else to relieve the discomfort in the meantime as well ?

Brief Answer:
Using plain clotrimazole is best

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. You can apply Clotrimazole-Betamethasone but not for more than a week. Thereafter shift back to plain clotrimazole. Betamethasone containing preparations make the problem go away faster but also return back faster.
Alternatively Lamisil AT may be used (but not both).
I do not find the others suitable.
I would not suggest antibiotic + pain relief ointment.
I do not feel anything else to be required.

What you recommend I do in the meantime to ease the discomfort? Ive lost sleep, and am finding it extremely difficult to go to work, not to mention explain to my bosses why. Like i said, there is no visable signs of anything being abnormal. Just an acute highly irritating painful feeling on the top of the outside of the tip of my penis. Thanks again for your help, its greatly appreciated .

Brief Answer:
Try applying the medicine and see if it makes a difference

Detailed Answer:
Just apply clotrimazole-betamethasone for a few days and see if it improves. Let me know after 4 or 5 days. Till then, be patient.
