Suggest Remedy For Excessive Bowel Movements

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: I am a 44 yr old male. I have been having excessive bowel movements. Similar to diarrhea, but without the fever, dehydration, or normal symptoms of it. I put it off as nerves as I have had more stress in the past few weeks. I felt soreness but felt it was due to the excessive bowel movements. Three days ago as I was showering, I notice a bump at the outer/inner part of the anus. I felt minor pain as a washed. I decided to visually inspect it. there are two bumps ...one on each side. They look like blisters or growths. Can you diagnos this for me?

Brief Answer:
Probably hemorrhoids

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

You haven't provided much information about your 'diarrhea' like bowel movements, so I couldn't be very specific in my answer, but I'll try to give you the best I can.

It would be helpful if you had described the consistency of your stool. Was it liquid? Were there any formed stool? Do you have bouts of diarrhea when under pressure or sad or anxious? Have you ever been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome?

How long has it been going on? These are some important questions to define your situation regarding the bowel movements.

As you've already pointed out, it could be related to your psychology. The intestine is very sensitive to psychological stress and may react with diarrhea, constipation, excessive gas etc.

The bumps that you noticed are most likely hemorrhoids. You haven't given enough information either but I guess they're probably soft and I supposed you must have seen drops of blood on the toilet paper. I can't be positive about that of course. Other possible diagnoses would include human papilloma virus infection (if you're practising anal sex) and even rectal prolapse. A picture would have helped.

Hemorrhoids are veins that collect the blood from the anus and rectum. Sometimes their walls may weaken and form a sac-like structure which is prone to bleeding and - depending on its location - pain. Internal hemorrhoids are painless. External hemorrhoids are usually painful. The internal hemorrhoids can sometimes prolapse and confuse the patient who might think they're external.
A visit to your gastroenterologist will make things clear.

What you can do until then is drink enough water, follow a regular defecation schedule (do not postpone defecations because of work etc), eat a lot of fiber and if the stool becomes hard like rock use a stool softener.

Actually this is what you'll have to do in the future should they prove to be hemorrhoids after all. Hemorrhoids can only get worse. They can not be cured conservatively. They can only be surgically removed.

I hope I've addressed your concerns!
If you have any more questions, please ask and I'll be glad to answer.
Kind Regards!
