Suggest Remedies For A Dark Bruise On The Hand

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Aug 2016
Question: I was just walking around and rub my hand across my stomach and I thought a little bit of soreness and a knot on the right side and I lifted my shirt and there was a pretty dark bruise of a decent size there and up pretty good knot. It's mostly painless but a tiny bit tender to the touch. I had a few good nights of drinking a little more than I should have it could've been something I did and forgot about but if I didn't run into something or hit myself there what else could it possibly be?

Thank you,

XXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
sounds like trauma

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
It sounds like you had some sort of trauma to your abdomen and now have some bruising and a knot. The knot forms as the body is trying to heal up from and injury and will probably go away on its own.
Alcohol inhibits platelet function so sometimes even a minor trauma when you have been drinking a lot can cause some major bleeding under the skin (that is what a bruise is).
This is unlikely to be something more serious like a cancer and it does not sound like a hernia.
If I were you I would just watch it and it should go away on its own in a week or two.
If you develop severe pain or fever, see a doctor right away, but i think that is unlikely.
Please let me know if you have further questions

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX that is exactly what I assumed I remember opening a car door hitting myself and figured it was not worth going to see my doctor when I already knew what it was. But I figured why not ask in case there is something I am unaware of I guess my only remaining question would be Why is there such a knot but nearly zero pain? Thank you again!

Brief Answer:
glad there is not much pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the follow up.
One of the great things about the abdomen is there is a lot of loose tissue and so a bruised area can swell up and not cause much pain. Pain can come from nerve involvement or from hard substances pushing against fixed tissue. In the abdomen things can just move around to get out of the way. Just be glad that there is not much pain and don't worry, this should clear up soon
