Question: My wife had a DVT last week. We went to the hospital and after a scan they told her she had a clot on the lungs. They prescribed 15mg of rivaroxaban twice a day for the next few months.
What can she do regarding activities and what should she avoid doing until we find out if the blood clot has gone?
What are the signs and symtoms she must watch out for if she needs to go back to hospital

Brief Answer:
Avoid sharp movements

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in HCM

I can really understand your concern and i am sorry for your wife condition.

If the blood clot is in the main lung arteries she should be careful with the movements in the first days. But the fact that the doctors send her home with ambulatory treatment means that the clot is not in central lung arteries and this is a good thing for her.

Nevertheless the sharp movements should be avoid.

Be careful with the food ,avoid the constipation situations.

She should wear elastic socks in the lower extremities bilaterally.

This treatment is not for deregulating the actual blood clot but to maintain a such condition of the blood to be thinner in order not to be predispose for other blood clots.

I would add to the actual treatment a medication which protect the stomach (like Nexium once).

The signs and symptoms more important are as follows:

Acute breathlessness
Sharp chest pain
Hypotension
Pain in the pulp of the legs

Do not worry this medication is the best and the last approved by FDA (US ,Food and Drug Administration)

I wish a fast recovery for your wife
