Question: Dear Doctor(Mr.XXXX) I am not able to sleep since 5 days and met local doctor and feeling very tied. she pricribed following drugs.need your sopport to understand whether I am on right medication. mukthavati-1/2 in morning medhavati-1-m and 2-N aswagandha+Argunaarista--4spoons twice brahmighritam---Morning-1 spoon and evening-1 spoon along with milk and SmritiSagar---2tab-m and 2tabs-N------ b.food and follwoing combination 1/2 spoon twice (Vachsch-25g Rajath bhasam-2g XXXXXXX pisti-2g kulya bhasa mixer-10g giloy sat-10g swarna makshik bhasma-5g ) all above medicien contains lot of bhasmas and whether they spoil kedneys? Kindly advice awaiting for your response. need this advice alos:can i shift to alopathy for some time and come to ayurveda. Regards XXXXXX

Brief Answer: Insomnia and Ayurvedic Solution Detailed Answer: Dear Mr. XXXXXXX Thanks for reverting back with your follow up 1. dose and duration of earlier drugs to be continued as such. 2. brahmi ghritam: make sure you take it with equal amount of 'mishri' and there after drink milk. 3. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX ras to be taken with honey or ghee. 4. One thing which modern literature hold is that Ayurveda herbal products and bhasmas are SAME , when they are entirely different. [since bhasam undergo shodhan [शोधन], jaran [जारण] & maran [मारण] before its use in clinical application.], PS. one example is: heavy metal means which will settle to bottom when put on to the water, whereas parameter for bhasam is that it should float on water [where is the gravity now]??, secondly if renal function tests [urea/creatinine] are normal then these medicines can be given in reduced dose and the kidney functions can be monitored every month for any untoward effect. 5. . make sure you retire to bed 1 hour after having dinner. . do not take too light or too heavy meals before bed time. . Indian classical ragas specially Raga XXXXXXX is very effective against insomnia. . practice 'tratak' karma', 'shavasana', 'sheetali pranayama', . make sure earlier suggestions regarding the same are also incorporated. 6. shifting to other system of medicine entirely depends upon your Doctor discretion/perusal.[ since if for exceptional reasons one has to take 'Mukta Vati' for a long time, still there is no harm as it doesn't produce any side effect.] Dr. Munish Naimittika
