Suggest Alternate Over The Counter Medication For Ritalin

Question: Dr. Mendiratta---hello again. I got back on here to talk to a psychiatrist about exchanging ritalin for something else. I wanted to stop and say hi and to tell you that I'm feeling much better; I just need a little more alertness and focus and a little less fatigue so he recommended adderall XR. He said I may be metabolizing ritalin too fast. What do you think of his suggestion? XXXXXXX

Well, I wont recommend you changing Ritalin if you are feeling better on it.. All these medicines do have a side effect of slowing the brain but if your other symptoms are better, dont go off it...As of fast metabolizing, it is always hard to say. When you are taking so many meds, it is possible one is prolonging it s effect...But overall, your feeling better is the end point which we would like to consider..

As for Adderal XR, you can try that for the alertness. It has amphetamine component, which can help in the alertness....
