Brief Answer:
Need to know drug that caused allergy...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

First, may I know what medication you are referring to? Is there any medication you used and caused itching on face/throat and swelling of eyelids?

If you experienced this, it is an allergic reaction and never should use that medication again.

With regards to Febuxostat, it is the generic name for the brand Uloric. It reduces the amount of uric acid made by the body.

Uloric and Febuxostat are the same drug.

Hope it answered to your queries!
Looking forward to have the requested data in!
Thank you!

The first drug in question was Allopurinol. That caused itching and swelling around my neck, face and eyelids.

From what I've read, Uloric may have the same side effects correct?

Brief Answer:
Different structure,different side effects...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for following up.

For your information, hyperuricemia results from the accumulation of uric acid, the end product of purine metabolism. It is due to:
- increased production by our body
- decreased secretion from kidneys
- increased intake by diet

With regards to treatment, it aims to control acute attacks, prevent recurrent attacks, and prevent/reverse complications.

Both, Allopurinol and Uloric inhibit xanthine oxydase enzyme, thus, inhibiting uric acid formation. However, they do not have the structure, that's why Uloric use is associated with less side effects.

Furthermore, Uloric does not inhibit enzymes involved in purine or pyrimidine metabolism, as does allopurinol. Therefore, it does not cause the same side effects of Allopurinol.

Regarding allergic reaction, you should observe is any allergic reaction would occur as for any other administered drug (even if it comes to paracetamol).

Hope it helped!
