Brief Answer:
Seems allergic bronchiolitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi

This seems to be allergic bronchiolitis.

The current medicine is for asthma. Kidpred is a steroid. Theoasthalin is bronchodilator. Pecef is an antibiotic. I personally believe in fewer medicines for children. Secondly inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled steroids are much better and much less side effects than oral medicines. Bronchodilators dilate the food pipe so that child is able to breathe.

Kids do not throw out cough and they swallow it. That is a normal phenomenon for them and cannot be changed. Moreover cough helps throw out the germs from windpipe and is a defence mechanism against infections.

My suggestions are as follows:
- Continue Pecef for atleast 5 days in recommended dose
- Syrup Cetirizine 0.5 ml 2 times a day
- Rather than oral medicines, get a prescription for inhaler bronchodilators. If oral medicine is really needed, then take syrup asthalin which has only one bronchodilator compound and its to be given 2-3 times a day
- Get culture and sensitivity done for sputum. If sputum is not possible then do a throat swab. It will show the bacteria responsible for it and which antibiotic will be needed for it.
- Get blood test done for complete blood count. It will help differentiate whether its infection or allergy
- Drinking warm fluids will be helpful
- After the course of antibiotics is complete, give him probiotics

Kindly get back with reports. If any doubt, feel free to get back.
Thanks

Dear Doctor, Thank you for the brief answer. Just for your information he had normal cold which eventually ended up in cough (He had ice cubes last week to get relieve from teething pain). His cough seems to be mild however thr's mucus which needs to be passon. Please let me know if above medicine are correctly priscribed by doctor as i went to him for the 1st time.. Why doctor has not given any cold or cough related syrup ? On asking he said it will go away on its own within 2 days but I cant see my baby in so much pain while coughing. He is so scared of cough that he is not eating anything since last few days.

Brief Answer:
No its not correctly prescribed

Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Thanks for reverting back with details.

Presence of cough and mucous indicates that the body is getting rid of the mucous.

His viral infection (cold) has cleared up. Now his mucous is clearing up. It is common to have a cough with mucous after a bad "cold". Since this bad cold affected not only the throat but it also affected the windpipe, that is why it is taking some time.

Now about doctor's prescription, Kidpred is not the correct medicine as it contains steroid. The oral steroids should not be given so easily. Inhaled steroids should be prefered.
Cough related syrup (e.g Chericof cough formula) contains dextromethorphan and is usually not given to kids under 2 years of age. But in bad cases of cough it can be given. Maybe you can give him this syrup in small quantity (2-3 drops twice a day) and see if he feels better. Dabur cough syrup is an ayurvedic alternative and can also be added in small quantities.

Otherwise, baby will heal by himself. Give his body sometime to repair.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Azee is another antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Seriously, the more you consult doctors, more medicines you will get. Azee is another antibiotic and frequent change of antibiotics is not recommended.
Mucolite contains ambroxol and this medicine was already ineffective in your child.
Piriton syrup is same as chericof cough formula and one of the two syrups can be taken.
Thanks
